The 2009 Harry Kalas CD
This is an updated version of “Harry Kalas, Voice of the Phillies.” The main addition is the inclusion of Harry’s memorable calls from the Phillies 2008 World Championship. It is guaranteed to bring smiles to the faces of Phillies fans.
Track 18 features the 2008 season, including the division-clinching-game-ending double play started by Jimmy Rollins. Harry made a great call (“What a play by J-Roll!”).
We also added some playoff highlights with Harry Kalas on radio for games against Milwaukee in the NLDS and the Dodgers in the NLCS. . . .And, of course, the final out of the World Series against Tampa Bay.
Most of this CD is the same as the original produced in 2007 . . .You will hear Mike Schmidt’s 500th homerun, all the great work Harry did in the 1980 Phils World Championship Season, some classic Richie Ashburn stories, and much more - enjoy!
About Harry Kalas
Harry Kalas was a man I truly admired. I never got tired of hearing that magical voice.
Phillies highlights with Harry’s play-by-play were always a treat, and the NFL Films voiceover work he did was classic.
With that voice, he easily could have just coasted along and enjoyed a very successful career . . .but instead, he combined his natural gift with a superb work ethic - and that’s what really made him so special.
When the Cubs played the Phillies, Harry Kalas was always at the ball park early, doing his homework and preparing for the broadcast. But he always, and I mean always, had time to talk to me.
He loved baseball, and he really loved the Phillies.
Everyone in our business respected Harry Kalas. The day he died happened to be the day of the Cubs’ home opener. Normally, Opening Day at Wrigley Field is filled with joy and excitement. But after hearing about Harry’s passing, I did not really feel like announcing a ballgame. In fact, it was one of the saddest days I have ever spent at the Friendly Confines.
I’m sorry I never got the chance to say goodbye to Harry, and to say “thank you.”
For your friendship, your kindness, and for the countless hours of listening pleasure -
Harry Kalas, may you rest in peace, my friend.
