Jon Miller is a broadcaster I truly admire—what a talent!
He has it all. A tremendous baritone voice which he uses artistically—both as a play-by-play man and a spot-on impressionist of other voices. You will hear plenty of his impersonations on this CD, which are both impressive and hilarious.
Jon loves baseball, and possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the game. You can hear the passion sparkle in dramatic moments.
Miller was the first game-caller on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball, a gig that lasted 21 seasons.
Jon has been a full-time Big League Baseball announcer for 42 years, the last 22 of which have been in his native Bay Area announcing for the San Francisco Giants.
On this CD, I’ve attempted to showcase Jon’s multiple skills. If you want to laugh out loud, go directly to track #8, “Rain Delay Convention.” It’s outrageously funny, as Jon imitates, among others, Vin Scully, Chuck Thompson and John Wayne.
For Giants fans, tracks #4 and #15 are all about the Giants’ three World Series titles this decade.
A classic track is #11, “Cal Ripken Jr 2131,” which, of course, was the game Ripken passed Lou Gehrig. Jon was masterful on Orioles Radio capturing this historic event.
All of us—and I mean every single one of us—who announce games for a living, have a deep feeling of respect and admiration for Jon Miller. He is among the best of the best—ever!
Please enjoy. Pat Hughes
