Voice of the Royals
Denny Matthews is the great Hall of Fame Voice of the Kansas City Royals, and he has been on the job since Day One when the expansion Royals began back in 1969.
He is also a friend of mine, and one of the best people I have met in the game. Denny is an easy listen-knowledgeable, prepared, low key, accurate, and witty. His own athletic background adds an extra dimension to his broadcasting.
This CD showcases his exceptional Play-by-Play skills. Tracks 4 and 5 will spark great memories for current Royals fans, with many highlights from the past 2 postseasons, including the 2015 World Series Championship for Kansas City. You will get a good chuckle of Denny recalling his first game-calling experience-that’s on Track 6. For inveterate Royals fans, Tracks 6 thru 13 promise to bring back a ton of memories. Track 10 is one of my favorites, as you will hear Matthews call the final three outs of the Bret Saberhagen no-hitter of 1991. Note how cool Denny sounds during that 9th inning, and how easy he makes it sound…trust me, it is NOT easy!
The 1985 Royals World Championship season is on display on Tracks 11, 12 and 13. George Brett’s famous performance in Game 3 of the ’85 ALCS is documented on Track 11. The bizarre 9th inning of Game 6 of the “85 World Series can be heard on Track 12, and the Royals first World Title is on Track 13.
Memories are a big part of my Baseball Voices series. Memories of your favorite teams, games, ballplayers, and broadcasters…but the sweetest memory of all is of YOU, at a certain time of your life.
Please enjoy “Denny Matthews, Voice of the Royals”.
